No Excuses

I have been stuck with almost zero free time of late. Even my weekends have been spent out of town working, far away from my computer. But I have not let that stop me.

I had been struggling with the start of The House of Broken, but after an epiphany a few weeks back I realised what the problem was and I mentally prepared to start writing again but lacked the time.

Not wanting to waste all this sudden motivation I decided to take it old school. With notebook and pen I’ve been scribbling notes every free moment I could find.

I only hope I can still read my writing when I find the time to type it up.

Third Times the Charm

So I just started over on my first draft of The House of Broken for the third time. Decided to begin the story a little bit earlier. I was finding the the setup very awkward and it was making me cringe.

Hopefully this will be the last time and all my problems will be solved, or at least some of the big ones.

Though I do like big red buttons.

From the Beginning

It has been a few years since I started Coffee, Cats and An Act of Murder. At the time I had a vague idea of where I was going and just started writing and hoped for the best. But since that first draft it has been a process of refining a world that I’ve come to know quite well.

So when I sat down to start writing The House of Broken I felt like I was just rambling on with no idea what I was doing and no sense of where I was trying to go. It has been so long since I have started a story I forgot how weird it can be.

I start with a concept and some characters but we have only just become acquainted, we barely known each other. And yes I have a bit of a storyboard planned out, but I find too much detail stifling.

Also it doesn’t help when life gets in the way and I end up ignoring it for a few months. At this point I think I would be best to start again. I had only written less than 1000 words so I am not losing that much.

It’s a Start

The support I have received since publishing Coffee, Cats and An Act of Murder has been amazing. I am truly touched, thank you all so much.

And yes it has mostly been friends and family who have purchased a copy of the book, but some of those friends I had lost contact with over the years and the fact that we have re-connected over this is even more special.

This is just my starting point and only my first published piece. From here I will become a better (and hopefully faster) writer and publish more and better books in the future.

And your support is the momentum that will carry me forward. ♥♥♥

Such a Simple Little Thing

I think the most exciting part of this whole process was when a box full of my books arrived on my door step. To see the physical finished product with my name printed on the cover, it was amazing.

I may have squealed a bit and danced around the room in my excitement.

It also taught me a lot about the publishing process and I will probably do things a bit differently the next time around. In the meantime, I Have a Book!!

But to any other writers out there I highly recommend publishing a hard copy, even just to get one for yourself. Not only is it a great milestone to achieve but the sensation when you see all your hard work printed as an actual book is something you just have to experience for yourself.

Plus it means your book can live on your bookshelf surrounded by all your favourites.

New Challenges

I recently ordered a batch of paperback editions of Coffee, Cats and An Act of Murder and while waiting for them to arrive I have been thinking again about my author’s signature. I’ve been scribbling on paper for a while now and I have to say it is proving harder than I thought.

It is most likely that I am overthinking it but nothing seems quite right.

If anyone has some tips or advice I would greatly welcome it.

A little bit of writing

Between work and study I have had little energy for writing lately. I am planning/writing what should be my next major story, the first book of the series is currently name The House of Broken. The plan for today is to edit the next episode of Cats and Cauldrons though I think I require more coffee before I start.

Also I have written a new short story as part of the writing challenge I run with my students so once I have given it a quick edit I will post it up.

For now I shall make a coffee in the biggest mug I have and settle in to edit Cats and Cauldron: What is Written. And if that goes well I may write some more on The House of Broken, but more likely I will play some Tomb Raider.
